Thanks Laura for this. It is so easy to turn light into some mysterious abstraction to obtain. I experience more through kindness and the presence it requires. Look forward to reading more!

Thank you, Ruchi. Embodying the light and having it as some kind of mystical ideal create completely different worlds. I appreciate your response.

Laura, I love the Dalai Lama’s answer that kindness is his practice. I have been thinking about how different that is from kindness as simply a value or an ideal.

When kindness becomes a practice, we begin to look for the small openings where kindness can be offered. We notice moments we might otherwise miss if we were simply moving through the day on automatic pilot.

Sometimes it is as simple as seeing a stranger, offering a warm word, or making a brief human connection. And then there is that moment when the light comes into their eyes, or a smile appears, and I feel it too — a palpable warmth, as if something has moved between us and made both of us more alive.

Your piece helped me see kindness not as something grand, but as an embodied attentiveness to the light that is already looking for a place to land.

Dear Lynn, thank you for being a good friend who follows the path of kindness. As more of us do this, we build a kinder world. Thank you for your wise "on the ground" response.
